This is the story of Radames, an Egyptian commander, who falls in love with an enslaved Nubian princess, Aïda… Yet he is to wed the Pharoah's daughter, Amneris. For him the dilemma is torture: love or power, which will it be? Meanwhile the slave princess does all in her power to save her father from the Egyptians, yet she is captured herself. Radames has to make a choice: should he deny love and let her die in prison, or save her and live a runaway life? He chooses love, of course… This triumphant opera was an explosive success; Verdi put his characters through so much emotion on such an epic scale that the audiences were won over at every performance. Chances are that you will be too.
